At the International Center for Optimal Living (ICOLiving) we understand that the anticipation of the first appointment with a therapist can be anxiety provoking. It is not unusual for clients to wonder about what the sessions will be like or how they will fill an hour talking about their lives. Please rest assured as we pride ourselves on understanding the therapeutic relationship from your perspective.

We work hard to ensure that we create a comfortable and safe environment for each person that seeks our services. We are a person centered practice, meaning that we take our lead from you through activing listening, asking questions and providing information to assist you in accomplishing your goals.

Your initial appointment at ICOLiving is the first opportunity for you and your therapist to get to know one another. Try to arrive 15 minutes early for the first appointment to review your paperwork. Please access the links below for the required forms that you will need to complete and sign. The paperwork will ask for information about yourself, your insurance coverage, and about what you are currently going through. You and your therapist will take time to review the confidentiality and cancellation policies as well as discuss your rights and responsibilities in therapy.

Appointments are scheduled to last for 45 minutes. You and the therapist will use the first appointment or two getting to know each other which will include questions regarding what brought you to therapy. Both you and the therapist will determine whether you are a good fit. At the end of the first session, the therapist will talk about a plan to help you. This may include continuing to meet with the therapist on a regular basis and developing a treatment plan or the therapist may refer you to another specialist who may be better able to help you.

If you wish to use your insurance to pay for services we recommend that you call your insurance provider prior to your therapy session and ask the following questions:

  1. Do I have coverage for mental health services?
  2. How many sessions are covered?
  3. What is your policy regarding out of network providers?
  4. Are there any co-pays?
  5. Are referrals for doctors required?

NOTE: The phone number for Member Services is typically located on the back of your insurance card.
